I must admit that I feel much more comfortable using studio flash lighting than natural light.  The output is easy to control and meter and I can move the light around to get the effect that I want.  I can soften it, bounce it, gel it, whatever, it’s just something that I’ve used quite happily for the last 15 years or so.  I’ve tended to shy away from using natural light, though I greatly admire photographers who are masters of natural light.

I’m an avid reader of photography books and spend hours watching photography videos on Youtube.  I believe you never stop learning.  Reading an article on natural light glamour photography recently gave me the incentive to ‘go natural’ on my shoot with glamour model Natalia Forrest.

The house we used was perfect, though the light outside was changing every few minutes.  The two shots below were taken just 15 minutes apart.  I used my ‘nifty fifty’ Nikon 50mm f/1.8 lens.  Hand-held.  Aperture set at f/2.8.  ISO 800.

It’s spurred me on to want to try more…
