So, here we are in a new year.  2015.  What does it have in store for us?

When I was writing my previous post on my favourite photographs of 2014 I got to thinking that I hadn’t taken as many photographs last year as I would have liked.  From time to time I also question where I want to go with my photography.  What direction do I want to go in?  This is something that I often struggle with.  Do you ever feel the same way?

I enjoy a wide range of photography, primarily involving people.  I suppose my first passion is glamour photography. Reading various erotic photography books and admiring the work of some very talented erotic photographers recently, I’m now finding myself wanting to push the envelope more in terms of erotic and nude photography, so be warned that you may see some of that creeping into my blog this year.

I still absolutely love the process of capturing portraits and headshots, be it male or female, and this will definitely continue.  I enjoy interacting with people, building a rapport and, ultimately, trying to make someone look good on ‘film’.  For 2015 I want to work on further improving my lighting skills, both soft and hard light, and push myself more to break out of my comfort zone.

Chloe Avril

Over the Christmas break I got the chance to sit down in front of the computer and work on some photographs from my last shoot with glamour model Chloe Avril.  I’ve said in previous posts how much I enjoy photographing this young lady.  I think she is brilliant in front of the camera.

On this last shoot we tried quite a few different setups, with one involving the hallway and stairs.  The shot used just one hard light – a bare Elinchrom studio flash unit coming from the top of the stairs to Chloe’s left (as you can tell from the shadow on the wall).  I always shoot in RAW.  In post-processing I have upped the contrast and converted to black and white replicating the look of ‘Ilford Pan F Plus 50’ film, just because I liked the hard, contrasty look.  I hope you like it too.
